Apple gift card codes are simple to redeem, so when one fails there is nearly always a clear reason. This guide walks through the error messages people actually see and the fix for each. It assumes your code came from a legitimate purchase and has not been used before.
Redeem it the standard way first
- iPhone or iPad: open the App Store, tap your profile picture, then Redeem Gift Card or Code. Type the code in, or use the camera to scan it.
- Mac: open the App Store, click your name, then Redeem Gift Card.
- Web: go to apple.com/redeem and sign in with your Apple Account.
The balance is added to your Apple Account and used automatically at your next purchase.
Error 1: the code is for a different country or region
This is the most common problem. An Apple gift card works only with an Apple Account set to the same country or region as the card. A Canadian card will not load on a UK account, and the same goes for every other pair.
Fix: check your account's country in Settings, your name, Media and Purchases, View Account, Country/Region. Then buy or use a card from that region. Refillarena lists Apple cards for Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, Austria, Finland, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Poland, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Pick the one that matches your account.
Changing an account's region is possible but strict. Apple requires you to spend your existing balance and cancel active subscriptions first, so switching just to fit a card is rarely worth it.
Error 2: the code was entered wrongly
Apple codes mix letters and numbers, and a few look alike (0 and O, 1 and I). Copying from an email can also add a hidden space.
Fix: type the code by hand instead of pasting it, or scan it with the camera on iPhone. Remove any space before or after it.

Error 3: the code has already been redeemed
Apple shows this message when a code is used. Check the Apple Account email address on other devices and in your purchase history first, because someone in a family or a second account of yours may already have redeemed it.
Fix: look at the redemption date and the account under Account Settings, Purchase History. If you never redeemed it and it was a purchase from Refillarena, contact support with your order number so the order can be checked.
Error 4: your account blocks the redemption
Apple can stop a redemption when an account has a problem. Typical causes are an unpaid balance from a previous purchase, a disabled or locked account, or a missing security verification.
Fix: open your Apple Account settings, clear any outstanding balance, and finish any verification Apple asks for. Then try again.
Error 5: it is just not showing
If the redemption succeeded but you do not see the balance, give it a minute, close and reopen the App Store, and check the balance at the top of the Apple Account page. You can also look it up through our guide on how to check an Apple gift card balance.
What not to do
- Do not read the code to anyone who contacts you by phone, email or chat. Apple Support never asks for gift card codes as a payment.
- Do not buy second-hand codes from unknown sellers. Used and stolen codes are common.
- Do not try to change your region with a VPN to force a code through.
