Google Play gift cards are locked to a country. A US card only works on a US account, a UAE card only on a UAE account, and so on. Pick the card that matches your account and it redeems in seconds. Pick the wrong one and Google rejects it.
The short version
- Your account country is the country in your Google payments profile, not where you are right now.
- Buy the card for that country. A VPN does not change anything, because Google checks the profile, not your IP address.
- You can only change your Play country once a year, and the balance from the old country stays behind.
How to check your Google Play country
Do this before you buy. It takes thirty seconds.
- Open the Play Store app.
- Tap your profile picture in the top right.
- Go to Settings, then General, then Account and device preferences.
- Look under Country and profiles. The country shown there is the one your card has to match.
You can also check on a computer at pay.google.com under Settings. The country listed on your payments profile is the one that counts.
Which card fits which account

Found your country?
Pick the matching card, pay with crypto, Binance Pay or card, and get the code by email in a few minutes.
What happens if the country doesn't match
Google shows an error along the lines of "this code can't be redeemed in your country" or simply says the code is invalid. The code itself is fine and has not been used. It just belongs to another country.
Gift card codes are final once delivered, so please check your account country before ordering. If you already bought the wrong region, contact support before you try anything else, and never post the code in a public chat or forum.
Should you change your Play country?
Only if you actually moved. Google lets you switch once every twelve months, and it usually needs a payment method from the new country. After you switch, any balance from the old country can't be spent. Changing country just to use a cheaper card is rarely worth it.
Living abroad? If you moved recently, your Play account may still be set to your home country. Check first. That is the card you need until you update the profile.
How to redeem your code
- Open the Play Store and tap your profile picture.
- Go to Payments and subscriptions, then Redeem code.
- Type the code from your email and confirm.
On a computer, go to play.google.com/redeem. The balance shows up right away and you can spend it on apps, games, in-app purchases, movies and books. Want the full step-by-step for paying with Bitcoin or USDT? See how to buy a Google Play gift card with crypto.
